Jeffrey Lee, FAIA, Principal and Director of Design at Pearce Brinkley Cease + Lee Architecture, received the Kamphoefner Prize from the North Carolina Chapter of the American Institute of Architects on on Sept. 18, 2010. The Prize was presented, for the first time in nine years, by AIA North Carolina at an awards ceremony in Biltmore Estate in Asheville during the 2010 North Carolina AIA Conference.

The Prize is given in recognition of commitment to the fundamental principles of the modern movement in architecture. The prestigious award is considered to be the highest level of recognition of design excellence by the Chapter. The prize was established by and named for Henry and Mabel Kamphoefner. Henry Kamphoefner was the founding Dean at the School of Design at North Carolina State University.

 Lee, FAIA, is a principal and director of design at Pearce Brinkley Cease + Lee. He has led the design of numerous educational, commercial, institutional and performing arts projects in North Carolina. Under his direction, PBC+L has received over 35 local, state and regional level AIA Design Awards, including the Outstanding Firm Award from AIA North Carolina in 2004.

Jeffrey received a Bachelor of Environmental Design from North Carolina State University and a Master of Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design.

Since 1988, he has served as a Professor in Practice at the School of Architecture, College of Design, North Carolina State University. In recent years, his appointment has been to teach either the BArch or MArch levels. In addition to teaching Jeffrey has served as a member of the Advisory Board to the School of Architecture and was its original chairman.

Jeffrey is recognized as a vocal advocate for design in the regional and national architectural community. As such, he is a much sought after design critic and awards juror for programs such as AIA Iowa, AIA Virginia, AIA Philadelphia and the AIA California Council. In 2010, Jeffrey served as a juror for the AIA National Honors Award for Architecture. He has been a frequent speaker / presenter at regional design conferences such as AIA Virginia’s Architecture Exchange East and NeoCon East.

In recognition of his accomplishments in design and his contribution to the advancement of the architecture profession, Jeffrey was elected to the AIA College of Fellows in 2006. In 2008, he was appointed by AIA North Carolina, to serve as a member of the Fellows Committee; a committee charged with assisting other candidates through the Fellowship process. He is serving as the 2012 chair of this committee.
