Pearce Brinkley Cease + Lee Receives NC Certificate of Merit for Superior Professional Service

Raleigh, NC — Pearce Brinkley Cease + Lee was awarded a Certificate of Merit from the North Carolina State Building Commission in recognition of superior professional service on Building D at the Northern Wake Campus of Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The award was presented to PBC+L on March 23, 2010 during the North Carolina State Construction Conference held at the McKimmon Conference & Training Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Douglas Brinkley, FAIA, said, “Pearce Brinkley Cease + Lee is proud to receive this honor from the North Carolina State Building Commission for our work on Building D. This award is a testament to our strong QA/QC program that ensures that our team’s contract documents are successfully coordinated across all disciplines resulting in a very low rate of change orders and construction conflicts.”

Building D received LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and was a case study model for the training required by Senate Bill 668.

Sustainable features of Building D include:
•  Natural daylighting in 90% of the building’s rooms and spaces
•  Occupancy sensors to turn off lights when spaces are not occupied
•  Daylight sensors that automatically adjust artificial lighting levels to respond to the amount of natural light that
enters the space
•  A storm water management plan that filtrates and cleans storm water runoff
•  Water efficient landscaping that requires no irrigation
•  Indoor toilet fixtures that reduce water consumption by 30%
•  A construction waste management plan that diverted 85% of the construction waste from the landfill to recycling centers
•  40% of the building materials contained recycled content and were produced regionally and low-emitting paints, sealants, adhesives and CO2 sensors were used to promote excellent indoor air quality.
