Designed by Pearce Brinkley Cease + Lee, Building D on Wake Tech’s Northern Wake Campus will open this month. Building D is featured in the August 12, 2009 Raleigh News & Observer article “Wake Tech’s New Building Goes Green.”

Sustainable features of the 75,000-square-foot building include:
•  Natural daylighting in 90% of the building’s rooms and spaces
•  Occupancy sensors to turn off lights when spaces are not occupied
•  Daylight sensors that automatically adjust artificial lighting levels to respond to the amount of natural light that
enters the space
•  A storm water management plan that filtrates and cleans storm water runoff
•  Water efficient landscaping that requires no irrigation
•  Indoor toilet fixtures that reduce water consumption by 30%
•  A construction waste management plan that diverted 85% of the construction waste from the landfill to recycling centers
•  40% of the building materials contained recycled content and were produced regionally and low-emitting paints, sealants, adhesives and CO2 sensors were used to promote excellent indoor air quality.

Building D has won numerous awards, including an Environmental Award from the City of Raleigh and is registered to receive LEED Silver certification with the U.S. Green Building Council.
